Value beyond capacity
Storage, flexible load and solar-plus-storage all operate within physical limits, but their economic value is not the same as rated capacity. Deployable flexibility changes continuously with SOC, efficiency, production constraints, weather and forecasts.
The operating envelope
The operating envelope describes the set of actions available to an asset now. It contains physical limits, current state, available flexibility and forward constraints. It is not a static specification; it is a dynamic object of decision-making.
Preserve future opportunity
When limited flexibility can be used only once, responding to the visible spread now may mean giving up a higher-value state later. Asset optimization therefore compares current value with future optionality to decide when to act and when to wait.
The examples describe a methodology and do not represent realized asset performance.
